Self-Improvement

We are often told that in order to get big results you need to take big actions, think big, make drastic changes, make strict schedule and what not while the secret lies in our daily routine.
Making 1% change can lead to optimum results once if performed religiously. But how does that 1% can even make a difference?
Why does 1% matter?
First off, setting a goal takes minimal efforts but marching towards it feels like a path full of thorns. In order to reach a goal, people often take major actions, plan big and take all the required efforts but after few days all the efforts go to vain since they see no results and stop taking actions.
But, in order to achieve something if we break the whole result into 1% action, then the results are impeccable. 1% improvement is barely noticeable but in the longer run just like compounding effect, it can give major results.
GOALS vs SYSTEM :-
Goals...System..What are they? How are they even related?
Sometimes goals seem unreachable but it doesn’t mean that it’s impossible to achieve. In order to achieve something, make system instead of goals because goals are related to results whereas system is related to the process. In order to achieve a goal, the vision should not be on the final destination but the steps which we need to take in order to get closer to the result.
Let me explain it with the help of an example,
Getting 99% marks in exam is a goal, whereas daily reading and understanding of the subject becomes system. Goals give you a direction but if you want to see progress then system comes into picture. Winner and losers share the same goal but the one who follows the system, makes small improvements daily wins and the one who doesn’t loses.
HOW DO WE CHANGE HABITS?
Habits are hard to change be it good or bad habits. Often it’s easy for bad habits to creep in. There are two ways in order to deal with habit change, Outcome Based and Identity Based. If a smoker wants to quit smoking, there can be two ways one can approach it. If offered a smoke, the outcome based will say “No thanks, I want to quit smoking”, but the identity based will come out as “No thanks, I am not a smoker”.
Your actions are generated from your set of beliefs and what you believe you become. So in order to change that previous identity, you need to make repeated actions which votes towards that. If u write well than it contributes towards your writer identity, if u can speak well then it contributes towards your public speaking identity. So if you want to make something a habit then decide who u want to be and take small steps towards it while changing your belief hence changing your identity. Attack your beliefs and your identity will be changed.
HOW DO WE BUILD A HABIT :-
Habits are made to do a job with minimal effort and thinking. In order to build a reading habit,
First, Make it visible: place your books at a place where it catches your eye.
Second, Make it attractive…Add bookmarks, etc.
Third, Keep it in a place you can easily get access to, like shelves, tables, etc,
Forth, Choosing the right book can help u improve your satisfactory level and make you want to read more.
If you want to let go of a bad habit then reverse the whole process. For instance, if you want to get rid of your phone addiction, you can Make it invisible. Add 12 digit passcode so that you won’t Open the lock much which will reduce the usage. Get rid of all the distracting apps and hence break the chain of this toxic habit.
